This small tree, growing to about 10 metres in height, occurs in open wallum woodland, either on deep sands or on shallow sandstone based soils. The flowers are carried in CREAMY- WHITE spikes and appear in late summer and autumn. A characteristic feature of this species is its distinctive brownish-grey, woody, pear-shaped fruit.
