A showy species of bottle brush, which grows mainly in swampy wallum heathlands and is also found on hillsides slopes in association with stunted melaleuca and a variety of small shrubs and sedges.

Grows to 1.5 meters tall. This species flowers from spring to autumn and sporadically after rain. Is easily cultivated making an attractive addition to Cooloola gardens enticing nectar eating birds.
