  • Plant Name: Drosera binata
  • Common Name: Fork leaf Sundew
  • Plant Family: DROSERACEAE (Sundew Family)

An insectivorous perennial plant that grows in waterlogged areas and in soils which are low in nutrients. The deficiency in their nutrient requirement is made up by exuding a sticky substance on the hair of unusual shaped and linear leaves, which attracts the insect. The trapped insect is digested by the plant to obtain nitrogen.

The foliage is deep red in colour and grows about 30-40cm high. The white (sometimes pinkish) five-lobed flowers are mainly produced in the spring and summer months and mainly after rain then recedes back to base.

A fascinating species of plant that has adapted to the soils of the wallum environment.
