Cooloola Cove Wetlands Rehabilitation Project

The aim of the project was presented by Coordinator Maree Prior & Project Officer, Michael Lowe, at the Feb 9 meeting of the Cooloola Cove Residents & Friends. A large audience attended and included Cr Gate, Cr Engeman and Cooloola Cove candidate, Ian Donald. Through a powerpoint presentation, the idea was to show a "then & now" scenario of the state of Cooloola Cove creeks and wetlands, and that if we as a community wish to maintain waterway health and biodiversity, we need to act sooner rather than later to save the creeks, many of which are being choked by weeds. It is envisaged that there will be several community forums or information sessions on Cooloola Cove native plants, hydrology, water sensitive urban design (WSUD) ie how to manage waterways in an urban setting with least interference to biodiversity and natural hydrology by specialists in the field. Michael is currently preparing the weed removal plans and species list for revegetation, while the first forum is being planned for May. A litter and weed clean-up was planned for Clean-Up Australia Day. (Pictured is the Cooloola Cove Residents & Friends and presenter, Michael Lowe)
