The united group would continue with current weed removal, plant propagation and revegetation projects, as well as the training of volunteers in the monitoring of seagrass, water quality and wader bird counting. It was also identified that foreshore management plans for the region should be assessed and updated.
The Greenbiz work for the dole team has been busy weeding and revegetating various sites in the Cooloola area. An application has been made to continue the successful work of this group for another 6 months.
Autumn was a busy season for our group. The NatureSearch week at Camp Kerr was lots of fun with some exciting finds (see Eva's report). The Waterwatch programme has commenced with members identifying sites at Cooloola Village and Tin Can Bay for monitoring. We are now members of the Society for Growing Australian Plants, which will benefit the Wallum Study Group. A weed identification display is currently at the library. The display has also been present at two market days and our AGM. Again we have entered the Clean Beach Challenge.
Thirty
people attend our annual general meeting held on April 9th. Jan Olley gave
an overview of the history and projects of the group. Ross Chapman from Cooloola
Shire Council gave an informative talk on The Gross Pollutant Trap and Sonia
Edwards (Regional Coordinator) talked on the Coastcare Programme. Andrew Collins
presented projects suitable for Coastcare funding. These include; fauna, flora
and water monitoring, revegetation projects, community awareness projects,
a management plan for Mullin's Creek and a review of the Tin Can Bay Foreshore
Management Plan.
